Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum Linn) is evidently active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Garlic contains allicin that is able to inhibit the bacteria causing tuberculosis. This dried extract garlic is also qualified as content of capsules of traditional medicine, score of Total Plate Count is1.5 (required not over 10); figures of mold and yeast extract of garlic is 4.102 (required not over 104); does not contain microbial pathogens (uncontaminated with coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp, and Staphylococcus aureus); and aflatoxin is not detected (required not more than 30 CPM); the average of moisture content is 2% (required notmore than 10%). Capsule of dried extract garlic (Allium sativum Linn) meets pharmaceutical requirements for traditional medicine capsule dosage form, with9 minutes as disintegrating time (required not more than 15 minutes) and meets the uniformity of weight as required for capsule. Results of the research indicates that dried extract of garlic indose above 48.750 mg/ kg body weightto get LD50in garlic, belongs to ‘relatively harmless’. Dried extract garlic in 4 doses variations do not affect the liver functions of mice, so significant clinical toxicity symptoms that happen on entire animals test have not gained yet

Abstract

One of the most developed pharmaceutical preparations for paracetamol is a syrup. An important additional substance required in the formulation of the syrup is a coloring agent. Telang flower (Clitoria ternatea) is one of the plants that has been proved to contain anthocyanins. Anthocyanin is a compound which can be used as a coloring agent. Thus, it is important to further explore telang flower?s potential as a natural coloring agent in paracetamol syrup preparation. This research was started with the extraction of the dye or anthocyanin content in the telang flower. The extraction was performed by ethanol with maceration method. Paracetamol syrups were prepared in four different formulations (F1, F2, F3, and F4). F1, F2, and F3 contained three increased concentrations of telang extract of 0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively, while F4 was added with the synthetic food coloring agent, as a control. Each formula was evaluated based on its physical properties parameters including organoleptic observation, pH, density viscosity, and color stability test using spectrophotometry. The results of organoleptic, pH, density viscosity, and color stability parameters showed that telang extract with the concentration of 0.25% and 1% possessed more stable result than 0,5% concentration in the paracetamol syrup preparations.

Abstract

Red kidney bean is one of the string beans that contain highest-fiber with a concentration 26.3 gram/100 gram substance. Red kidney bean contains flavonoid tannin steroid/triterpenoid and coumarin. The Flavonoid in red kidney bean has anti-diabetes activity. This research aims to determine total flavonoid content in the red kidney bean extract. Extraction is done using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract which is got is used for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Quercetin used as a standard solution. The qualitative analysis of flavonoid using TLC, Wilstater Cyanidin by forming a red complex and NaOH by a forming yellow complex. The Quantitative analysis was using colorimetry method with reagent AlCl3 to form complexes between AlCl3 and keto groups. Quantitative analysis continued with Visible Spectrophotometry on a wavelength of 430.0 nm and operating time at the 27th minute. The results of the qualitative test showed that the extract was positive flavonoids. The average concentrations of total flavonoids were 0,4733% extract with a variation coefficient value of 1,2%.
